I Make Good Sounds At Parties

DIRECTOR/PRODUCER/EDITOR

A lonely man attends a house party that grows nightmarishly surreal.

At parties, we avoid eye contact. We clutch onto leaden solo cups. We're among the first to leave. When we suffered breakups, we lost our sense of identity in every social engagement. We forgot how to be alone. When we came out as queer, we forgot how to act like ourselves entirely, wondering if our performances of queerness would even reflect who we are now. In the benefit of hindsight, all of this is hilarious material for a narrative short. Who hasn’t felt existential at a party full of people they think are so much more confident?

"I Make Good Sounds at Parties" is a descent into a nervous breakdown, mapping our social anxieties onto a funny, alarming canvas. We wanted the film to feel as queer, isolated, idiosyncratic and absurd as we feel ourselves to be at parties. To us, those are the best sounds you can make. - Amanda and Russell
